Heather Jacobs, a 2006 graduate of
Franklin Pierce University and a native of Stoughton, Mass., has been
named the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Daniel Webster College. The
announcement was made by Vice President of Student Affairs for Athletics
Phil Rowe.
“I am delighted Heather has accepted the opportunity to oversee our
women’s basketball program,” noted Rowe. “She has demonstrated
outstanding skills not only on the court, but off of it. She possesses
outstanding basketball knowledge and I am completely confident her
addition to our staff will provide a smooth transition for our team and
help create a program that will annually challenge for a conference
championship.”
Jacobs, who becomes the fifth head coach in Eagle’s program history,
spent last season as assistant coach with DWC conference rival Norwich
University. The Lady Cadets posted a 24-4 overall mark including a 10-1
record in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, finishing
second in the standings. Norwich, which led the league in total team
defense, advanced the conference tournament championship game and earned
an at large bid to the NCAA tournament, falling in the opening round.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to take over the helm of the Women’s
Basketball program at Daniel Webster,” said Jacobs. “It is an exciting
time for the Eagles program as we have five returning starters, a solid
core, and talented incoming players. The student-athletes have been
training hard in the off season and their strong work ethic will pay off
as we look to elevate ourselves in GNAC standings this season.”
Jacobs, who graduated magna cum laude in Sports and Recreation
Management with a minor in Marketing, was a two-time Northeast-10
Conference All Academic selection while at Franklin Pierce and was a
Second Team All Conference selection her senior season. She also earned
Most Valuable Player accolades at the 2006 ECAC Division II
championships, leading the Ravens to the title.
A two time captain and team most valuable player as a junior and senior,
Jacobs retired 20th all time in career scoring, 19th in rebounding and
collected more than 100 steals and 129 assists over her four seasons.
Jacobs inherits an Eagle program that posted an 8-15 overall record
including a 2-9 mark in GNAC play. The Eagles anticipate the return of
all five starters including senior center Erin Moseley of Sterling,
Mass., who was an all conference third team selection last season.
Jacobs begins duties September 10th.
