Lawler To Lead Eagles Men's Soccer Program

Bill Lawler has been named Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Daniel Webster College (DWC). The appointment was announced by Phil Rowe, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for Athletics.

“Bill is a proven coaching talent and his experience speaks for itself,” said Rowe. “It is our expectation that Bill’s knowledge and passion will pay great dividends as we work to elevate our program into an annual competitor for a conference championship.”

Lawler spent this past season as Assistant Coach at Dartmouth College where the Big Green posted a 6-8-3 mark and a 3-3-1 record in Ivy League play.

“I am very excited to come to Daniel Webster,” said Lawler. “There is a lot of positive energy on the campus and in the athletic department. Athletic Director John Griffith and Assistant V.P. for Athletics Phil Rowe have the athletic department moving forward and I believe the coming seasons will be an exciting time to be a part of the men's soccer program.”

“I am really looking forward to building the program here,” added Lawler. “Everyone has to come together and work towards that right from the beginning and I want the current players to be the ones who lay the groundwork for this program to move forward. It’s also important to me for the student athletes on the team to be productive members of the College community. We will work to create a fun environment where they are committed both in the classroom and on the field.”

A 1998 graduate of Babson College with a degree in Business Management, Lawler was a standout goalkeeper with the Beavers program and was named Constitution Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in both 1996 and 1997. Lawler backstopped Babson to successive ECAC New England championship appearances in 1996 and 1997, earning tournament MVP honors as Babson won the 1997 title.

After graduation, the Harvard, Mass. native played professionally with the Worcester Wildfire of the A-League in 1998, the Rhode Island Stingrays of the USISL in 1999, and the New Hampshire Phantoms of the USISL in 2000.

Lawler spent time as Assistant Coach with his alma mater from 1998 through 2000 and again from 2003-2004, and was Assistant Coach at George Mason University from 2001-2003.

Lawler spent one season as Head Coach at Manhattanville College, leading the Valiants to the 2004 ECAC Metro Region Championship and most post season wins in program history, before spending the next season at Skidmore College as Assistant Coach.

Lawler inherits a DWC program that posted a 1-14 mark in 2006.
