Hughes Steps Down As Women's Basketball
Head Coach
Cori
Hughes, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Daniel Webster for the past six
seasons, and who served a myriad of other roles for the Eagle program,
has resigned to accept the head women’s basketball coaching position at
Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I.
“I thank Cori for the tireless efforts she has given not only to the
Eagle women’s basketball program, but the entire Eagle athletics program
over the past six seasons,” said Phil Rowe, Assistant Vice President of
Student Affairs for Athletics. “Cori has done it all during her tenure
and has always been willing to assist wherever and whenever she was
needed. She did a terrific job in helping our women’s basketball program
remain an annual competitor and she will be greatly missed. We wish her
well as she moves forward.”
“I wish Cori nothing but the greatest of success,” added Director of
Athletics John Griffith. “She has been a true team player in every
sense. I cannot thank her enough for all she has done throughout her
tenure here and wish her the very best.”
Hughes guided the Eagles to an 8-15 overall record this past season and
compiled a 36-99 overall record during her tenure including a 10-13 mark
in 2006-07, which had been the best season for the program since 1999.
Along the way she coached three all conference players and one
1,000-point scorer.
Hughes was an instrumental part of the Eagles athletic program during
her six seasons. Along with coaching the basketball program, Hughes
served one year as Women’s Soccer Coach, three years as Softball Coach,
two seasons as coach of men’s and women’s cross country, and was the
department’s Senior Women Administrator. Hughes is a 1992 graduate of
Boston University.
A search for Hughes successor will begin immediately.
