Eagles Streak Halted In OT, 93-84
Leicester, Mass.- Becker College defeated Daniel Webster 93-84 in New
England Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action Thursday night. The
loss halted a six-game win streak for the Eagles, who suffered their first
league loss, moving to 9-5 overall (3-1 NECC).
In the first half, both teams battled through five lead changes. Daniel
Webster had a seven-point point lead with just under 12 minutes to play in
the half, before Becker went on a 7-0 run to tie the game for the fifth
time. With Becker leading 39-36, Brian Inge (Fort Washington, Md.) hit a
three pointer, tying the game for the ninth time. Terrance Favors (Boston,
Mass.) and Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Conn.) hit back to back jumpers to put
the Hawks ahead by four. Joel Prince (Woodbridge, Va.) then hit a last
second three pointer, putting the Eagles within 1 at the half. Tim Jackson
(West Henrietta, N.Y.) carried the Eagles with 12 first half points. Travis
Suber (Springfield, Mass.) had 19 1st half points for the Hawks.
Becker went ahead by as much as 10 with just over seven minutes remaining,
before Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) guided the Eagles back. Hanson outscored
Becker 10-2, cutting the Hawks advantage down to two. After a Rajai Leggett
jumper put the Hawks up by four, Brian Inge drove past the Becker defense,
putting Daniel Webster within two. Chris Hanson then hit another huge three
pointer, giving the Eagles a one-point lead with 1:32 remaining in
regulation. Adam Landry (Vernon, Conn.) hit both of his free throws a minute
on the clock, putting Daniel Webster ahead by thee.
Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, Md.) hit a layup with 39 seconds remaining,
putting the Hawks within 1. After Brian Inge missed a jumper with 22 seconds
remaining, Travis Suber took the rebound down the court for a final shot. As
Suber drove to the net he was fouled by Chris Hanson with 17 seconds left.
Suber missed his first free throw and hit the second, to tie the game at 76.
A three pointer in the final second by Chris Hanson came up short, and the
two teams were forced into overtime.
Terrance Favors got the Hawks off to a favorable start in overtime, when he
hit a layup while being fouled. Favors executed his free throw, putting
Becker ahead by three. Tim Jackson hit a jumper to put Daniel Webster within
one. Becker answered back with an 8-0 run, to seal the overtime win.
Chris Hanson carried the Eagles with 23 points and 10 rebounds, to earn a
double-double. Tim Jackson chipped in with 21 points in a losing effort. The
Eagles will battle 13th ranked Elms College on Saturday.
Travis Suber led all scorers with 37 points. Terrance Favors continued his
outstanding freshman campaign with 20 points and 12 rebounds, to earn his
first double-double of the season. DeJohn Exum (New London, Conn.) chipped
in with 17 points in a winning effort.
