Eagles Pull Past Newbury, Win Third Straight
- With information from Newbury Sports Information -
Brookline, Mass. - Chris Hanson (Salem,
Mass.) and Brian Inge (Ft. Washington, Md.) combined for 45 points as the
Daniel Webster College men’s basketball team won its third straight and
sixth in its last eight outings, 85-70 at Newbury College in a NECC matchup
Thursday night at Hellenic College.
Hanson, who notched a game high 24 points, canned six three pointers for the
Eagles (15-8, 9-4 NECC), while Inge drained four more from the outside for
21 points. Tom Jackson (W. Henrietta, N.Y.) added 13 points, while Adam
Landry (Vernon, Conn.) hit for 11 points and seven rebounds.
The win pulled the Eagles to within a game of the all-time season victories
mark (16), set in 1998-99.
Kevin Cleveland led Newbury (7-17, 4-9 NECC) with 18 points, while Walky
Magliore added 15.
The Eagles trailed 35-33 at the half, but surged in the second behind
65-percent shooting (15-23) from the field to overtake the hosts.
The game was close until the final four minutes. DWC held a tight 67-63 lead
with 3:38 to go, but a Hanson three and a William Kemp Harris (Suitland,
Md.) layup sparked a 9-3 run over two minutes effectively sealing the
victory.
The Eagles close out the regular season Saturday hosting Lesley University
at 1:00 p.m.
