Eagles Put Scare Into Lasell But Fall In OT

(Newton, Mass.) – Outshot 13-1 from the night, the Daniel Webster men's soccer team still almost pulled off the GNAC surprise of the season Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles played a tight team defense and pushed a favored Lasell squad into overtime, before Mike Welch's score 9:10 into the extra session ended the contest, 2-1.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 1-13-2 overall and 0-8-1 in GNAC play with one game remaining on the schedule, while Lasell, jockeying for first place in their first season of GNAC play, improved to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in GNAC play, keeping them tied in points with Johnson & Wales with one game remaining.

Remarkably, the game marked the fourth overtime game for the Eagles this season and their ninth one-goal loss in 2007.

Andre Garcia had tied the score in the 35th minute after Lasell's Dylan Drosky put the Lasers up 10:21 into the game.

Eagle keeper Fred Jacobs sparkled, finishing with 11 saves (five in the first half), including two in overtime.

The Eagles close out the season at Rivier Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
