Courtesy Johnson State Sports Information
JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State freshman Noor Bulle (Burlington, Vt.) scored
the game-winning goal with 1:35 remaining in the second overtime to lift the
Badgers over visiting non-conference foe Daniel Webster College on Saturday
at Minaert Field. The win pushes Johnson State to 2-1 (0-0 North Atlantic
Conference) while the loss drops DWC to 0-2 (0-0 New England Collegiate
Conference).
Alex Jackson (Kent, Ohio) scored the game’s first goal at the 7:43 mark
taking a long pass from Andre Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) and beating JSC
keeper Steve Noyes (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) to his left to give Daniel Webster
the early lead.
Bulle would score his first goal of the contest just minutes later at 11:38
of the first half collecting an Alex Komeyan (Essex, Vt./Essex) feed and
knock it home past the Eagles’ Joe Keene (Bristol, N.H.) to knot the game at
1-1.
The team’s would battle back and forth and scoreless over the next 89
minutes of play with Daniel Webster holding a 20-19 shot lead until Bulle’s
late heroics. Bulle maintained balance and collected a bounding ball between
two DWC defenders, pushed the ball into open space, and, one-on-one with
Keene, deposited the game-winner to the left corner of the goal to lift the
Badgers to the victory.
Noyes, in his first collegiate start, made six saves to earn the win for
Johnson State while Keene made five stops for Daniel Webster. Both keepers
made outstanding, game-saving stops during both overtime sessions.
Johnson State will host in-state non-conference Norwich University on
Tuesday, September 15 at 4:00 pm in their next contest while the Eagles will
travel to Fisher College next Saturday the 19th for a 2:00 pm start.
