Eagles Fall To St. Joseph's In Home Opener
Nashua - The Daniel Webster College women’s volleyball team held a 2-0
advantage but St. Joseph’s of Connecticut stormed back to capture the next
three sets to tip the Eagles, 3-2 in regional action Saturday at the Mario
Vagge Gymnasium.
The Blue Jays won by scores of 19-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-20 and 15-13 in the
fifth and deciding set, spoiling the Eagles season home opener.
The duo of Catherine Irwin (Barkhamstead, Conn.) and Brittany Souza
(Newington, Conn.) hit for 17 kills each and Jennifer Braun (Bloomfield,
Conn.) dished out 29 assists and added 15 digs to lead the Blue Jays (1-4),
while Fran Cekolli (Waterbury, Conn.) pulled in a match best 24 digs.
Rookie Samantha Hill (Hudson, N.H.) led the Eagles (0-2) with 10 kills,
while felloe newcomer Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) knocked down nine
kills and added six blocks (five solo).
Kristina Rieger (Concord, N.H.) added five kills, five aces, 16 digs and
four blocks, while Caitlyn DiPierro (Billerica, Mass.) handed out 32 assists
and hit for five kills and four aces. Catherine Ferraro (Litchfield, N.H.)
pulled down a team high 22 digs.
The Eagles are off until Thursday when they host Suffolk University in a
non-league matchup with St. Joseph’s hosts Mitchell Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
