Eagles Rebound To Top Bay Path For First NECC Victory

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Bay Path junior forward Jessica Hunt (Madison, Conn.) led all players with 22 points and 11 rebounds despite the Wildcats 58-27 loss against the Eagles of Daniel Webster Tuesday night.

The Eagles rebounded from a two-game skid as they won their first New England Collegiate Conference matchup.

Coming off the bench, Daniel Webster’s freshman guard Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) topped her team with 15 points shooting 64% (7-11) from the field. Fellow freshman starting guard Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) also scored in the double figures with 12 points. Gervais led defensively pulling down seven rebounds while dishing out five assists.

Both the Eagles’ head coach Heather Jacobs and the Wildcats’ head coach R.J. Toner managed to clear the bench in the NCAA Division III game with 19 players seeing at least five minutes of court time.

Hunt came very close to her first collegiate triple double adding seven blocks and five steals to her double double. Senior guard Sarah Wright (Canterbury, N.H.) chipped in nine boards for the maroon and white hoopsters.

Bay Path (2-8, 0-1 NECC) came out of the gate strong holding the lead for the first ten minutes of the game, going up by as much as seven at around 12:41 left on the clock. Despite the Wildcat’s early spark, the Eagles managed to regain the lead heading into the locker room with a nineteen point cushion. Bay Path’s attempt to slow the game down led to the Eagles scoring 26 points off of 29 Wildcat turnovers.

Daniel Webster (6-5, 1-1 NECC) took advantage of their deep bench with the reservists scoring 27 of the 58 points. They were able to make some nice fast break passes nailing 22 points off of their quick offensive play.

The Eagles return home to host Becker in an NECC matchup Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
