Nashua – Freshman Ali Chojnacki (Erie, Penn.) led a balanced attack with 11
points, 10 rebounds and seven assists leading the Daniel Webster College
women’s basketball team past visiting Newbury College, 70-39 in a NECC
matchup Saturday at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Nicole Conley (Hinesburg, Vt.) and Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) added
10 points each as the Eagles (8-7, 3-3 NECC) led from wire to wire, to take
their second straight victory. Joyce Chagan (Boothbay, Harbor, Maine) added
nine points and Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) hit for eight. In all, 10
different Eagles registered at least one point in the victory.
Katelyn Mark (Quincy, Mass.) led the Nighthawks (1-13, 1-5 NECC) with 12
points and eight rebounds, while Kendra Bannister (Stafford, Va.) just
missed a double with nine points and nine boards. Morganna Machado
(Attleboro, Mass.) added nine points.
The Eagles were aided by 24 Nighthawk turnovers leading to 25 points and
finished with a 44-34 advantage on the glass.
Daniel Webster opened the game with a 12-2 run as Conley hit back to back
threes and the Eagles led by as many as 16 in the first period.
Newbury chipped the lead down to nine (28-19) after back-to-back treys from
Bannister and Machado and a Mark three-pointer pulled the Nighthawks within
eight (31-22) before two free throws from Chojnacki gave the Eagles a 32-22
lead at the break.
The Eagles took control in the opening minutes of the second, limiting the
Nighthawks to four points over the first 10:34, and ballooned the lead to
54-26 with 9:13 left after threes from Chojnacki and Conley. The lead would
reach 32 over the final minutes.
The Eagles head out on the road for their next three games beginning with a
visit to Southern Vermont College Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
