Eagles Conquer Mountaineers, 78-68

Bennington, Vt. – Rookie Vanessa Bosques (North Windham, Conn.) notched a season high 18 points including a perfect 4 for 4 from three-point land leading six players in double figures as the Daniel Webster College women’s basketball team won its third straight with a 78-68 victory at Southern Vermont College in a NECC matchup Tuesday night.

Joyce Chagan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) notched 14 points and six assists, Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) and Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) notched 11 points each, and Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) and Nicole Conley (Hinesburg, Vt.) hit for 10 each as the Eagles (9-7, 4-3 NECC) prevailed in a matchup of old GNAC rivals.

The Eagles trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but closed the period with a 19-9 run including a Regan layup with four seconds left and led 33-31 at the break.

Despite the Mountaineers shooting 57-percent from the field in the second, the Eagles were aided by 14 SVC turnovers and would build as large as a 16-point lead (70-54) on a Chagan jumper with 3:33 remaining and never allowed the Mountaineers closer than nine points through the bulk of the final 15 minutes.

The Eagles also won the battle of the boards (40-29) including a dominant advantage (17-9) on the offensive glass.

Kayla Whitman led Southern Vermont (5-11, 3-4 NECC) with 18 points.

The Eagles play game two of a three-game road trip visiting Becker College in a NECC meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
