Eagles Avenge Becker Loss 65-54 As Streak Hits Four

Leicester, Mass. – Alyssa Regan (Salem, N.H.) knocked down a team high 14 points including eight in the second half and Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.) provided a big spark off the bench with nine second half points as the Daniel Webster College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to four with an important 65-54 victory at Becker College Thursday night in a NECC matchup.

Nine different Eagles got into the points column as the visitors improved to 10-7 overall (5-3 NECC) and reached their longest win streak since the 1998-99 season, while avenging a 72-68 home loss to the Hawks 12 days ago.

Joyce Chagan (Boothbay Harbor, Maine) hit for 10 points and seven steals while Briana DeSeignora (Medfield, Mass.) and Amy Nelson (Cheshire, Conn.) notched eight points. Vanessa Bosques (N. Windham, Conn.) hot for seven, Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) added six rebounds and three steals and Alycia Gervais pulled down a team high eight boards.

The Eagles took control in the first half, shooting 47-percent (15-32) from the field and took advantage of Becker's paltry shooting (4-25) as the Hawks (8-8, 4-4 NECC) didn't break into double figures until the 17-minute mark. The Eagles led 32-13 at the break.

Becker opened the second half with a 10-2 run whittling the lead down to nine (35-24) with 14:44 left, but Bosques followed with a three deep in the far left corner, Regan buried a layup and Ali Chojnacki nailed another three to help rebuild the lead back to 15 (42-27) with 12:39 left.

Leading 48-32 with 11:12 to go, Murphy buried three inside jumpers and added two from the free throw line helping bulge the lead back to 21 points with six minutes remaining.

Beth Pion led Becker with a double double of 17 points, 10 rebounds. Kristina Desnoyers added 15 and Rachel Pinak notched 12.

The Eagles did not let Becker closer than 17 until the final two minutes of play.

DWC returns to action Saturday visiting Elms College for a 3:00 p.m. NECC matchup.
