Eagles Suffocate Nighthawks For Third Straight
Win, 53-33
- With information from Newbury Sports Information -
Brookline, Mass. - Not one Daniel Webster
College women’s basketball player reached double figures in scoring Thursday
night against Newbury College.
Thanks to a suffocating team defense, no one needed to.
10 different Eagles got into the scoring column with Nicole Conley’s nine
points leading the way as the Eagles stifled the Nighthawks, 53-33 in a NECC
meeting played at Hellenic College for their third straight victory.
Vanessa Bosques and Kirsten Murphy added seven points each as the Eagles
(15-9, 10-5 NECC), continued to set new records for most victories in a
season, having surpassed the previous mark of 13 (1999) two days before.
Now 9-2 over their last 11, the Eagles limited the Nighthawks (5-19, 5-10
NECC) to just 22-percent shooting on the night including a total of 12 field
goals with just five coming in the second half. The Eagles also overwhelmed
Newbury on the glass, to the tune of 52-40 including 21-13 on the offensive
boards.
Katleyn Mark led Newbury with 10 points.
Joyce Chagan and Alyssa Regan chipped in with six for the Eagles, who close
out the regular season Saturday visiting Lesley University at 6:00 p.m.
