Tale of Two Halves as Amcats Nip Eagles, 2-1

Jenesa Carbrera (Southbridge, Mass) poked home the loose rebound of a Kelly Martin (Arlington, Mass.) shot in the 58th minute breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling Anna Maria past Daniel Webster, 2-1 in women’s soccer action at DWC Field Tuesday.

Jessica Beer (Holden, Mass.) notched the game-tying score in the 51st and Karine Almeida made 10 saves as the Amcats (5-4) halted a two game skid.

It was a tale of two halves as the Eagles (3-4-1) outplayed the Amcats in the first, finishing with a 9-2 shots advantage, drew five corner kicks to Anna Maria’s one, and led 1-0 at the break on a Sharma Wing (Windham, Maine) tally in the 42nd minute off an Erin Hurd (Centerville, Mass.) corner kick.

But Anna Maria outshot the Eagles by a decisive 11-4 margin in the second, outdrew the Eagles on corner kicks, 6-1 and slowly wore down the Eagle attack with suffocating midfield play.

DWC almost tied it with 20:07 to play as Wing broke free down the right side, sending a 25-yarder toward the left side of the goal. The shot beat Almeida but clanged off the far post, preserving the 2-1 lead.

Rose Chapman (Sanbornton, N.H.) finished with six saves for the Eagles, who travel to Mitchell Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match up. DWC will look to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Pequots back on September 3rd.
