Eagle Fall In Opener, Mt. St. Mary's To Meet Lesley In Tourney Final


(Nashua) – Kristen Piatkowski (Madison, N.J.), Danielle Bucco (Washingtonville, N.Y.), Kristen Maggio (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Nicole Ryan (Maybrook, N.Y.) all scored single goals and Mount St. Mary’s limited host Daniel Webster to just one shot on the day, as the Blue Knights advanced to the championship of the Eagle Kick Off Classic with a 5-0 victory in the season opener for both clubs Saturday afternoon.

Piatkowski netted the eventual game winner 28 minutes into the contest, while Bucco added a late first half score for a 2-0 lead at the break. An own goal in the 50th minute made it 3-0 and Maggio added her first in the 53rd. Ryan closed out the scoring with four seconds to play in the game.

Megan Cotta (Point Pleasant, N.J.) earned the win in goal finishing with one save over 58 minutes and yielded to Jess Thibault (Watertown, Conn.) for the final 32 minutes.

Becca Jordan (East Granby, Conn.) took the loss for the Eagles (0-1), making 12 saves.

The Blue Knights (1-0) will face Lesley in Sunday’s title game at 3:00 p.m. Lesley shut out Potsdam in the tourney opener, 3-0.

In the first tournament semifinal, sophomore Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) picked up where she left off a year ago, netting all three scores as the Lynx (1-0) shutout the Bears, 3-0.

Fralick, who led the squad with 22 goals last season, upper her career totals to 25 scoring in the 34th, 43rd, and 77th minutes. Cathryn Folkestad (Ipswich, Mass.) set up Fralick’s second score just before the end of the first half.

Hailee Lowe (Hamilton, Mass.) earned the win in goal with a four-save shutout.

Sarah Casey (Potsdam, N.Y.) took the loss for Potsdam (0-1), making 13 saves.
