Somerville, Mass.-- Junior Meghann Benesh’s (Miller Place, N.Y.) first
collegiate goal with 7:10 remaining lifted Suffolk to a 2-1 Great Northeast
Athletic Conference women’s soccer victory over Daniel Webster Saturday
afternoon at Dilboy Stadium.
Benesh converted a feed from freshman Gracie Sanchez (Milton, Mass.) and
lofted a shot from 20 yards out on the game-winner for the host Rams (2-10,
2-10 Great Northeast), who have won two of their last three outings overall.
Sophomore Erin Hurd (Centerville, Mass.) had given the visiting Eagles
(2-13, 1-11 Great Northeast) an early 1-0 advantage just 8:52 into the
contest when she converted a pass from freshman Kristy Novotny (Easthampton,
Mass.), but junior Kaley Moore (Dracut, Mass.) evened matters for Suffolk in
the 59th minute by converting a penalty kick for her fifth marker of the
season, setting up Benesh’s heroics in the closing minutes of play.
Sophomore Meghan McDonald (Easton, Mass.) picked up her second win of the
season with a five-save effort in goal for Suffolk, while sophomore Kendra
DeVote (Parsonsfield, Maine) made 12 stops in net for Daniel Webster as the
Rams outshot the Eagles by a 16-10 margin for the contest.
Suffolk closes out its inaugural season of varsity play on Tuesday afternoon
when the Rams entertain Simmons in a Great Northeast outing at Dilboy
Stadium beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Daniel Webster closes out its season
as well on Tuesday afternoon by hosting Lasell in a Great Northeast match in
Nashua, N.H. that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
