Hurd, Quintiliani Sweep NECC Weekly Awards

(Nashua, N.H.) - The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Tuesday that Daniel Webster College women’s soccer players Erin Hurd of Centerville, Mass. and Alexa Quintiliani of Manchester, Conn. have been named Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Hurd, a senior forward, helped the Eagles to a 1-1 week against Rivier College and NECC rival Mitchell College. After strong offensive play in a tight 1-0 setback to Rivier on October 13th, Hurd followed with two goals in the Eagles’ 4-3 overtime victory at Mitchell on October 18th, including the game-winning score 10 minutes into the extra session.

Quintiliani, a freshman forward, added strong offensive and midfield play against Rivier. She followed with a goal in the second half and later set up Hurd’s game winner in overtime against Mitchell.

Under the leadership of head coach Tom McGuinness, the Eagles stand 6-7 overall and 4-2 in NECC play. The team’s victory over Mitchell clinched just its second ever post-season appearance and first since the 2002 season. The Eagles close out their regular season home slate hosting Wheelock College on Wednesday, October 22nd and end their regular season schedule on the road at Becker College Saturday October 25th and at Pine Manor College October 26th.
