Eagles Shutout In Season Opener, 2-0
Nashua -- Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) notched two first half
scores less than three minutes apart and the Anna Maria women’s soccer team
defense allowed just three shots on goal as the AmCats edged host Daniel
Webster College 2-0 before 125 sun-splashed fans at Eagle Field Sunday
afternoon.
The win kept the AmCats (2-0-2) undefeated on the early season, while the
Eagles (0-1) dropped their season opener.
Karine Almeida (Brockton, Mass.) made three saves for Anna Maria, while Amy
Waller (Berlin, Mass) made five stops for the hosts.
Hevy struck first with an unassisted tally at the 17:36 mark, sending an
18-yard shot past an outstretched Waller and followed with a 15-yarder to
the upper right corner off a Maggie Sielawa feed 2:34 later.
The teams finished with 10 total shots apiece, with the AmCats putting seven
on goal.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they host Suffolk at 3:30 p.m.
Anna Maria visits Mitchell Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
